Alfred Russel Wallace (1823-1913) developed, independently and contemporaneously with Charles Darwin, the modern theory of biological evolution by natural selection, which had profound influence on all modern science. Wallace outlived Darwin by 31 years and died in 1913. He continued making important contributions to science and is recognized as a naturalist and biologist of major importance.
